Frequently asked questions
What is a transparent proxy?
A proxy that intercepts traffic without the client configuring it, typically at an ISP, school or company gateway. It often adds headers that reveal the original client address.
Can this test detect every proxy?
No. Anonymous and elite proxies, VPNs and Tor strip or never add these headers. Only the IP reputation check can flag those, and even that is not perfect.
Why does it say I am behind a proxy at work?
Corporate networks frequently route web traffic through a filtering proxy that adds a Via header. It is normal and does not necessarily mean your traffic is monitored.
Is the X-Forwarded-For value my real IP?
Usually yes: it is the address the proxy received your connection from. If several values appear, the first is the original client and the rest are intermediate proxies.
