About this tool
Short links hide their destination, and that is exactly what phishing campaigns and spam rely on. The Unshorten URL tool resolves the chain for you: it requests the short link from a neutral server, follows every HTTP redirect, meta refresh and gateway wrapper, and reports the final address along with the status code of each hop and the title of the landing page. If a link crosses to a different domain or downgrades from HTTPS to HTTP, you see that too.
It is useful far beyond security. Marketers use it to verify campaign redirects, support teams to understand what a customer clicked, and researchers to document the infrastructure behind a URL. Expansion is powered by the APIVoid URL Status API.
What this tool gives you
Final destination
The last URL in the chain, with its status code, page title and server IP.
Full redirect chain
HTTP, meta-refresh and JavaScript-style redirects are followed and listed hop by hop.
Email gateway links
Links wrapped by Proofpoint, Mimecast, Safe Links and similar gateways are unwrapped first.
Frequently asked questions
Which shorteners are supported?
All of them. The tool does not rely on a list of services: it follows the actual redirects, so bit.ly, t.co, tinyurl, cutt.ly, lnkd.in and company links all work.
Is it safe to unshorten a suspicious link?
Yes. The request is made from a server, nothing is rendered in your browser and the destination never receives your IP address or any cookies.
Why does the chain stop early?
Some destinations require a browser with JavaScript or block automated visitors. The chain status and debug message tell you when and why following stopped.
Can I check many links at once?
For bulk work use the Bulk URL Status Checker or the Redirections Fetcher, which accept up to fifteen URLs per run and list the redirect target of each.
